David Horowitz
David Horowitz got his start in the jewelry business at age of 15, he started from the bottom and worked his way up working as a janitor in a jewelry store in Hanford. He became an apprentice for two years learning the craft. At age 30, Horowitz already had 15 years of experience and opened his own shop. Like a true American success story, Horowitz started his business with a trade shop in his garage. Johanna, his wife of 36 years, would make trips to surrounding cities to collect orders on Mondays, then deliver the completed jewelry he had worked on during the week on Thursdays.
David Horowitz first opened his store on May 1, 1991. At the time the store was located across the street from its current location in what had been a men’s clothing store. The front window was large and, funds being tight for the new business, Horowitz said he couldn’t afford to remodel it into a jewelry showcase.
The idea to turn the window area into a functional shop came to him while at Magic Mountain with his son, Jonathan. Horowitz purchased the store’s current property at 175 N. Main St. in 1996. He does it all at his shop, from fixing jewelry to designing unique pieces.
Horowitz’s favorite part of the job is seeing people’s reactions to his creations and the sense of pride he feels at the accomplishments.
